It’s 1:30 now as I write this blog update. We are anchored
between Potato and Lancaster Islands. We set sail (so to speak) for Mulcaster
Island, home of one of the Canadian National Parks. As always, all the docks
were full of boats when we arrived.
The winds were not favorable for anchoring there so we went a couple hundred yards more north and anchored where we are now, Potato Island. It’s a lovely little spot. We have an island cove in front of us, and can see the Canadian Middle Channel off to port.
We have peace and also activity to watch. We just finished lunch, grilled Italian sausage with onions and peppers, potato chips of course, and finished off for Kerry with a breakfast bar.
There is also a cute little house next to us, with some neat wooden carved animal statues.

My day started at 5:30 when light filled the boat. We went
to bed at 9:00 last night, being tired and out of daylight so I had a good
night’s sleep. I took a couple pictures of the sun rising, then started fishing.
Well, first I brewed coffee on a stove top percolator. I had no idea how long
to perk it. I think 10-15 minutes is the correct amount now that I have done it
once. It was good coffee, actually. 4 little white donuts provided the
sustenance I needed to catch my first fish, an 8” perch. Cute little guy, so I
sent him back to daddy. I discovered
that I had the lake water and fresh water faucets mixed up last night, which
gave Kerry a heart attack because she had washed her face in lake water yesterday.

When Kerry got up I made her tea and we sat out on deck
enjoying the beautiful morning for at least an hour. At 11:00 we started off on
our trip to Mulcaster Island. It took about 1 hour to make this short trip. No WiFi here. I posted last night’s blog update without pictures using the 100 mb
of data I bought from Verizon for $25. It took 50 mb to just post that simple
update, so no more updates until I get to the States or find free WiFi.
All the electronics I brought are working great, including
the XM radio, small inverter and navigation stuff. We have plenty of food,
although we are almost done with our first bag of potato chips. We had a small
problem when I pulled the bag out of the cupboard right side up only to
discover that Kerry had opened the bottom of the bag. The seagulls were quite
happy with all the chips that hit the floor when I tossed them in the lake. I was less so.
It’s now 6:30 PM. We had a very pleasant afternoon at anchor.
We read, did Sudoku, napped, sat in the sun, showered and just passed the
afternoon away. Cocktails were rum and tonics. We were not particularly hungry
for a big dinner, so we had peanuts at cocktails and crackers and ham salad
following that. We’ll have cereal later if we get hungry.
We moved inside because it really cooled off. Same weather
pattern as yesterday – warm in the morning and early afternoon, then clouds and
wind picking up in mid-afternoon, cooling it off. This weather pattern makes
for very pleasant sleeping.

Tomorrow we are continuing our trip east. We plan to go down
the Canadian Middle Channel to Smuggler’s Cove which is across the Channel from
Georgia Island. We’ll start a little
earlier than today. We might grill ribs for lunch – yum! I have not needed the
machete yet and plan to return it if we don’t use it the following days.
